We are what we is
Cheap Thrills! That's the name of the collective of West Frisian musicians paying tribute to the American composer Frank Zappa. During their shows, the highly respected band puts themselves in Zappa's shoes and delivers his songs with conviction. It began as a single project to mark the 25th anniversary of the grandmaster's death, but thanks to the many positive reactions, it has evolved into a full-fledged show. Cheap Thrills has since performed on various (large) stages, including the annual Zappa Festival in Bad Doberan, Germany; Zappanale; and the only Zappa festival in the Netherlands; Mosae Zappa in Landgraaf.
Frank Zappa's music is unique. You can call it many things: psychedelic, eclectic, ironic, virtuoso, and that still doesn't do the music justice. The theatrical aspect of Zappa's concerts is also taken seriously during the shows. It's not just music; it's total theater. Between the songs, there's room for (short) stories about Zappa's life and compositions, adding even more depth. The best way to experience this show is to come live.
Cheap Thrills has curated a selection from the American composer/guitarist/bandleader's vast oeuvre, offering two hours of listening and viewing pleasure. The 11-piece band plays songs like "Dancing Fool," "Peaches en Regalia," "Joe's Garage," "Teenage Wind," and many more. All under the motto: "Frank isn't dead, he just smells funny!"
